Editorial Policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

These are the standards we follow when we publish and update recipes, ingredient guides, and articles on HomemadeRecipe.net.

What we publish

  • Recipes that rely on widely available ingredients and ordinary home equipment.
  • Practical guides that answer a specific cooking question directly and explain the reasons behind the advice.
  • We do not publish pages just to target search phrases, and we do not pad articles with filler to reach a length.

Accuracy and sources

  • Food-safety information (cooking temperatures, storage times, handling advice) is checked against public guidance from food-safety agencies such as the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, the FDA, the UK Food Standards Agency, and the NHS. Articles link to the specific sources they rely on.
  • Where advice differs between countries or experts, we say so rather than presenting one view as the only answer.
  • Times, yields, and substitution ratios are estimates for typical home kitchens. Recipes state their assumptions, such as pan size or whether rice is already cooked.
  • We do not publish nutrition figures unless they have been calculated from a nutrition database.

Testing claims

We only call a recipe “tested” if it has been cooked from the published version. Our current recipes have not been through formal kitchen testing, so we do not describe them as tested. We never publish invented reviews, ratings, testimonials, or personal stories.

Use of AI

AI is used on this site in two different ways:

  1. Editorial content. We use AI writing tools to help draft and edit recipes, guides, and articles. Factual and food-safety statements are checked against the public sources linked on each page. The publisher is responsible for everything published, and AI tools are not credited as authors.
  2. The AI recipe generator. The generator on the home page creates suggestions automatically with Google's Gemini model. These results are shown only to the person who asked, are not published as pages, are not reviewed by an editor, and are always labelled as AI suggestions.

Images

Photos are licensed stock images from Unsplash. They illustrate the type of dish or ingredient and generally do not show the exact recipe as written; recipe pages say so under the photo.

Independence

No advertiser, brand, or other third party pays for or approves our content. See the Advertising Disclosure.

Corrections

If you find an error, such as a wrong quantity, an unclear step, a broken link, or outdated safety advice, email editorial@homemaderecipe.net with the page address. We review every report. When we fix a significant error (for example a temperature, quantity, or diet label), we update the page's “updated” date. We do not change dates for cosmetic edits.

Updates

We revisit guides when official guidance changes. The “updated” date on an article reflects the last substantive revision, not an automatic refresh.
