Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

This policy explains what information HomemadeRecipe.net (“we”, “us”) handles when you use this website. It describes how the site works today. If we add new tools, such as analytics or advertising, we will update this page first.

Summary

  • You can read every recipe and guide without an account, and we do not ask for your name or email to use the site.
  • We do not use analytics, advertising, or social-media tracking scripts at present.
  • If you use the AI recipe generator, the ingredient text you type is sent to Google's Gemini API to produce suggestions, and two small cookies enforce the daily limit.
  • We do not sell personal information.

Information we handle

1. Ingredient text you submit to the AI recipe generator

When you press “Find My Recipes”, the ingredients you typed and the filters you selected (diet, time, difficulty) are sent from our server to Google's Gemini API, which returns recipe suggestions. We do not store the ingredient text in a database or link it to your identity. Please do not type personal information into the ingredient box.

Google processes this text under its own terms. Depending on the API service tier used, Google may retain submitted content for abuse monitoring or use it to improve its products. See the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.

2. Daily usage limit

To keep the free AI tool available to everyone, each visitor gets 3 AI searches per day (reset at midnight UTC). If you use the generator, we set two cookies (listed in our Cookie Policy): a random identifier and a counter containing only the date and the number of searches used. Our server also keeps a temporary count in memory, keyed to that identifier and to a one-way hash of your IP address and browser user-agent. These in-memory counts are discarded at the end of the day or when the server restarts.

3. Your privacy choices

If you open , your selection is saved in your browser's local storage so the site can remember it. It is not sent to us.

Kitchen tools

The calorie calculator, unit converter and recipe scaler run entirely in your browser. What you type into them is not sent to us. The calculator keeps your last entries in your browser's local storage for convenience.

4. Emails you send us

If you email us at editorial@homemaderecipe.net, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message, and use it only to reply and to fix any issue you report.

5. Server and hosting logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare receives technical information needed to deliver and protect pages, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time of the request. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

6. Images

Recipe and guide photos are licensed from Unsplash and your browser loads them directly from Unsplash's image servers (images.unsplash.com), which receive standard request information such as your IP address and browser type. See Unsplash's privacy policy.

What we do not do

  • We do not run analytics or advertising scripts, or use tracking pixels, at present.
  • We do not create user accounts or profiles.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If we add advertising in the future

We may apply to show ads through Google AdSense. If we do, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure ads, and, where you have agreed, to personalize them. Before any advertising code is added we will update this policy and the Cookie Policy, and visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent through a Google-certified consent tool. You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)

Where data protection law such as the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interests to operate, secure, and limit abuse of the site and the AI tool, and to answer messages you send us. Cookies that are strictly necessary for the generator's daily limit do not require consent.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, to object to processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because we do not keep accounts or store generator submissions, we usually hold no personal information other than emails you have sent us. To make a request, email editorial@homemaderecipe.net. California residents can read Your Privacy Choices.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. The Gemini API key is kept on the server and is never sent to your browser. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we keep the information we handle to a minimum.

Changes and contact

We will update the date at the top of this page when the policy changes. Questions about privacy can be sent to editorial@homemaderecipe.net.
